Onteora School Board Renews Super Contract As Its Search Starts To Deepen

The Onteora School Board voted unanimously to add a year onto Superintendent Hal Rowe’s ten-year contract, which was due to expire this June. At Monday’s school board meeting, board president Marino D’Orazio said, 'He has done an excellent job for our school district. He’s the right person to remain in place through next year, and he has graciously offered to help us out in this time of transition."

Smoking Ban Where?


Here, The Only Big Effect Of The New Non-Smoking Plan Is At Snyders...

Seeking to push a smoking ban in all restaurants and bars, the Ulster County Tobacco Free Action Coalition recently released results of a poll the group commissioned that found nearly 94 percent of those surveyed believe second-hand smoke is harmful and 90 percent say they would be as likely or more likely to go to restaurants if smoking in them is prohibited.

Ulster County is considering a ban on smoking in all public spaces and work places, including restaurants, and taverns which derive more then 40 percent of their income from food service, as opposed to liquor sales. Such laws have been adopted in a handful of other counties in the state, including Dutchess County, and New York City, as well as in municipalities nationally.
