Town Readies For Appeals Push Against City For Reopening Of Monument Road

The Article 78 lawsuit which Olive brought against New York City in an effort to re-open one of its most picturesque roads will wrap up by the end of the month, according to the town’s attorney in charge of the case, Delice Seligman. All of the papers are scheduled to be filed with State Supreme Court Judge Christopher E. Cahill by December 28th for a decision upon the opposing arguments.

Catskill Watershed Corp Decides To Take On New York’s Tax Lawsuits

The Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC) Board of Directors has declared that unresolved tax assessment litigation brought by New York City against upstate municipalities where the city owns dams, land and buildings is “the most serious issue presently facing the towns in the (City’s) West of Hudson Watershed.”
In a resolution adopted at its November 27 meeting, the CWC Board urges a “global settlement” of current lawsuits, and requests that the City sit down to “discuss agreement on valuation methodologies so that future lawsuits might be avoided.”

Master Planning The Plans
Onteora Hires New Consultants To Check On What Other Consultants Have OKed

The Onteora school board approved Advisory Solutions of the New York State School Boards Association to help design the Master Plan for the district at a cost of up to $42,000 at its November 27 school board special meeting, with Superintendent Leslie Ford explaining that the group will help determine which building, either Bennett Elementary or the High School, would best hold grades five-through-eight when the district reconfigures in the coming years. Also looked into will be a possible redistricting.

Talk about Déjà vu… It’s the end of another year, with the first snow bringing a nice holiday cheer to local homes, and what suddenly rounds the corner just as everyone’s getting into a lazy, armchair-sitting mood for the holidays? Move aside Santa Claus and howdy do Dean Gitter… or at least that giant Belleayre Resort project he’s been pushing towards reality for over seven years now.

‘Tis The Season

Peggy Stohr and husband Jerry are snowbirds who left for Florida just days before our first snowfall. She will be reading The Olive Press online. Enjoy that sunshine, Peggy! Today that same snow was my catalyst to gear up for the holiday season.
Hanukkah has begun and Christmas is three weeks away. Those are the religious holidays that often get lost in the blitz of commercialism and glitz of decorations. The “holiday” of frantic shopping and insane decorating started the second we made that turkey sandwich with mayo on Thanksgiving night. I swear that store personnel must have been put on overtime to obliterate all that is orange and replace it with green and red and silver and gold.
