Olive Files An Article 78 Lawsuit Over The Monument Road ‘Lemon Squeeze’ Issue

Delice Seligman of the Kingston law firm Seligman & Seligman has filed an Article 78 petition demanding that the New York City Department of Environmental Protection show cause as to why they have continued to keep Monument Road, a picturesque route along the southwest portion of Ashokan Reservoir, closed to local traffic.

As Global Warming Rides In, Smaller Catskills Ski Resorts Are Starting To Fail

Three years ago, at a major conference on the state of the worldwide ski industry in Turin, Italy, worries about the effects of global warming on winter sports first surfaced seriously. With snowfall growing increasingly unpredictable around the world due to climate change, it was predicted that Europe’s once robust ski industry was already 15 percent off its previous peak. In Australia, a complete collapse of ski resort business was expected by mid-century. And in North America, all the talk was about keeping the damage control to southern ski slopes started in recent years, smaller operations at lower elevations, and battling consumer perceptions about what was happening to the weather.

When West Shokan resident Jane Keller lets out a philosophical sigh and says "Man wants and God laughs," she’s speaking metaphorically about the Army Corps of Engineers’ effort to correct flooding problems on the Bushkill Creek in 1985. After two decades, creekside homeowners downstream have come to dread the rain-thickened flow of the Bushkill into their gardens and living rooms.

My mom died. Two consonants and a handful of vowels arranged themselves into the saddest sentence I ever wrote. Mom was a lover of language. Wheel of Fortune, the Word Jumble, the crossword puzzle in the Freeman, and thousands of books were her passion. I thank her for that legacy.
