Get
out this week and celebrate the 40 years that have passed since
the first Earth Day... there's plenty of events in our calendar,
but also an Open House at the Ashokan Campus, and a hike at
Frost Valley, well worth visiting. It's certainly a great time
of year for getting out and realizing all the benefits our earth,
in all terms of the word, gives us all!

4/22/2010
By Sam Truitt
In their recent production of Henry V, New Genesis has
yet again brought Shakespeare and the English vision
he heralded wonderfully into our midst-in fact set it
verbally aflame-or as Shakespeare writes, "Now,
all the youth of England are on fire!"

A
Jar Of Olives...
Olive Rocks
4/8/2010
By Carol LaMonda
Scoutmaster Keith Davis and Brian Davis organized a
"Rock-a-thon" for the boy scouts of Troop
163 sponsored by the VFW. Each scout collected pledges
and spent twelve hours rocking in donated rocking chairs
to earn money for summer camp at Camp Tri-Mount. The
event was so successful that these thirteen "Rock
Star" scouts will be able to camp without having
to ask parents for money.

Town Board FInalizes The Process For
Running Boiceville's New Sewer Plant
4/22/2010
By Cindy Johansen
The Olive Town Board first met this
month on Monday, April 6 in a special
meeting to discuss several issues concerning
the Boiceville Wastewater Treatment
Plant. One of several firms that were
contacted by Supervisor Bert Leifeld
attended this meeting and presented
their proposed cost of Operation &
Maintenance for the facility in Boiceville.
It was noted by Leifeld that this firm
was given high marks by Lamont Engineering,
the firm responsible for the design
and construction oversight of the facility.
Lamont Engineering has also developed
the Operations Manual for the plant
that will be followed throughout the
coming years. Leifeld stated he had
contacted two other firms, Environmental
Consultants of Poughkeepsie and VRI
Environmental Services of Millbrook,
along with LVDV Operations, Inc. One
of the companies responded, but no further
contact from any of the others was received.

Tea Party Holds First
Meeting, Brought Together
By What They're All
Against
4/22/2009
By Paul Smart
The Mountain Tea Party,
meant to take in the
towns of Olive, Shandaken
and Woodstock, held
its inaugural meeting
on Wednesday, April
14, filling the Phoenicia
Fish and Game Club
with about 80 people,
including handfuls
of town officials
and key local figures.
The crudely-lettered
signs that have become
emblematic of the
movement, espousing
patriotism and proudly
stating the freedoms
the year-long movement
feels are most important,
filled the room's
walls amidst hunting
trophies. A "Don't
Tread On Me"
flag was hung from
a folding table set
up at the room's front,
behind which Chris
Johansen, Mitchell
Langbert and Glenda
McGee - all of Olive
- ran the meeting.
Or tried to.
