Our venerable elders such as Harvey “Lintz” Avery, Everett Cook, Chet Scofield, Tommy Pederson, Hoppy Quick, Bud Eckert, Billy Lohrer, Alfred, Al, Vince, Bob and Tony Barringer, “Billy O” Osterhoudt, John Ingram, Sheldon Boice, Beth Kelder, Bill Davis, F. George Krueger, Lester “Sonny” Davis, Florence Giuliano, Lonnie and Ruth Gale, Sherret Chase, Albert and Jane Fox, Ernie and Don Beesmer - along with so many others - have lived and demonstrated a lifestyle and ethic that was rich in locally produced and preserved food, hard work, high spirit, neighborly reciprocity, cooperative effort, and high level practical skills that were passed down through the generations and which had up to that time fostered a high level of overall local sufficiency, productivity, well being and beneficial inter-dependence.
