Onteora Coach Finds Himself At The Center Of Growing Assignment Controversy

Onteora High School track coach and physical education teacher Patrick Burkhardt remembers that he was battling a flu one Friday in early June when he answered an unexpected phone call from the school’s principal. The call, which was to alert him to a change in his assignment for next year, stunned him with news which he feels threatens to end his coaching career.

The Catskill Mountain Eco-Heritage festival being held at the Ashokan Center in Olivebridge on Labor Day weekend will celebrate nature, music and art at the first major event open to the public since the Ashokan Foundation assumed ownership of the former Ashokan Campus Outdoor Education Center from the SUNY New Paltz Campus Auxiliary Services in March, 2008.

Onteora’s New Year Begins With Water Questions & A Decent District Report Card

Onteora starts its 2008/2009 school season next Thursday, September 4, after staff orientation on Tuesday and a Conference Day with Kindergarten Registration on Wednesday. Bus schedules can be found at community local elementary schools.
Pre-Kindergarten classes are full with 32 children. Kindergarten will see 111 students entering three elementary schools. The total number of kids attending the district schools are 1769. Superintendent Leslie Ford said this falls somewhat inline with the demographic projections of 1774.


Gillen & Turk will headline a full afternoon of Music & Art Alfresco for New Genesis Productions at the beautiful Ashokan Farm, 23 Vision Path off 28A in West Shokan from 2 to 7 PM on Sunday, August 31. Go!!!

Marty Giuliano was part of the work party to provide temporary shelter to a burned-out neighbor on Van Steenburgh Lane. He stopped by our house to show me a program from the very first official Olive Day. It was June of 1973, and he had pictures to prove he was there with his bulldozer, which hauled the stone-bolts from the tractor pull held on that day.
