Mystery Surrounds Release Of Boms One Year After Winning County Award

When a popular and successful high school coach is suddenly and unexpectedly replaced with only the bewildering comment that it’s "for the best," many people are certain to be mystified. None of them, however, are as mystified as the coach himself.
"I have no idea why he’s doing this," said Onteora track coach Mike Boms when reached for comment. "I’ve never been written up for anything. I asked if it was for personal reasons and he (Onteora Athletic Director Michael Kocher) said ‘no.’ I asked if it was for professional reasons and he said ‘no.’ Then why? He said it was ‘for the best.’ The best for whom?"

Onteora Sets March 29 Referendum On Repair Funding Pegged For Reimbursal

The Onteora school board approved a resolution that calls for the public to vote on a $1,862,711 bond for major building repairs at its February 6 meeting in Woodstock. The referendum will take place at local elementary schools on March 29 from 2pm to 9pm.
“This vote, if approved, is at no cost to tax payers… I want that to come out loud and clear,” noted OCS Trustee Rita Vanacore at the meeting. “It is coming out of the Capital reserve fund and EXCEL aid.”

Planners Settling In Now
Town Comes Up With New Reasons For Its Actions As New Planners Take Seats

The members of new Town of Olive planning board met for the first time Tuesday, Feb. 6, to begin settling into their new roles in the public service. Present were all six members so far appointed (a seventh having yet to be named), along with Miles Putnam, a planning consultant hired by town board member Bruce LaMonda.

State Senator John Bonacic’s looking good these days. Always a natty dresser and quick smiler, his public appearance has been augmented by a knowing look in his eye that’s always press-ready of late. Suffice it to say that his failed attempt to route powerful Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno last month and long, closed-door meetings with new Governor Eliot Spitzer in recent weeks, have fueled the sort of media attention this veteran campaigner seems to thrive on. Valentine’s Day will be history by the time this column is read. Hopefully, the day of love and appreciation was celebrated in some way. If you were traditional, the roses will now be in the wilting stage and the chocolate candy will be on sale for 50% off. If you ignored the day, despite all the advertising blitz and media hype, you might be doing penance or harboring malice. Everyone likes to be remembered and acknowledged.
