PUSHING UP THE.. DAISIES... in a good fashion. After all the rains, a bit of color besides green is surely welcome.

7/20/2006 The following is in from Olive Matters, “clarifying some misunderstandings about the Large Parcel Law” which comes up for discussion again at an Onteora School Board meeting on Saturday, August 10 at the Onteora High School.
Statement: The Ashokan Reservoir no longer meets the criteria of a Large Parcel now that the Town of Olive has done a revaluation of its properties. The LPL issue is moot.
False. Olive will always meet the three tests in the LPL under the 5-5-5 section, which says that a large parcel (the Ashokan Reservoir) must represent 5% of the town’s assessed value. It does. It must be worth at least 5 million dollars. It is. And there must be a 5% difference, or more, between the equalization rate and the apportionment rate. Because ORPS (Office of Real Property Services) sets the equalization and the apportionment rates (apportionment rate is the new equalization rate AFTER the large parcel has been removed from the town), and continues to undervalue the Ashokan Reservoir (Olive’s assessed value of the reservoir is 650 million, ORPSs value is 320 million for 2005), this final 5% difference will always qualify the reservoir as a large parcel.

One face in the crowd that did not seem surprised belonged to the founder of Northeast Citizens For Responsible Media, Andi Novick, who has maintained that the state of American media is not a peripheral issue but one sitting dead center in the current field of public concern.

Vacationing Near Home

7/20/2006By Carol La Monda
Some people fly or drive to the Catskills to enjoy the sights and activities that we probably take for granted. That cruise or Caribbean getaway is fine, but there are many places nearby that are worth visiting.
My summer started with a Tonche Transit Trip to Mohegan Sun. Lisa Leiter was our hostess who managed to keep our spirits up despite the torrential rain outside and the lack of winners inside the bus. Check out their schedule of events.
