Town Board Keeps Questioning School Actions As Rally Readied For Sunday...

Tensions between the Onteora school board and the town of Olive continued right up until the eve of the May 17 school board election and budget vote, surfacing at this month’s town meeting last week. The current split, and stand-off, is rooted in the school district’s decision to adopt the “large parcel” tax option last year and the subsequent rejection of the 2004-2005 school budget by most voters in Olive and West Hurley.

"I get very little sleep - by choice," says Stacy Mapstone. "I just hate saying no." Unfortunately, she has to say no occasionally; there just aren't enough hours in the day to do all the service-oriented things she'd like to do. Stacy is best known in the area as the leader of the local chapter of La Leche League International - "I'm called the Breast Lady of Shokan," she says with a smile - but giving breast-feeding information and encouragement to new mothers is just one of many generous roles she plays in the local community.
