Resorts Ties To DEC's Ski Center Sought As Towns Line Up Behind

The Catskill Preservation Coalition, representing eleven national,
regional, and local environmental groups in the Belleayre Resort
issues conference, has filed a motion to "stay" the
current hearings being held by the State Department of Environmental
Conservation.
In a Motion for Discovery filed by CPC attorney Marc Gerstman
on June 2, the Coalition asserts that the current review needs
to include growth plans for DEC's own Belleayre Mountain Ski
Center in order to properly assess the full cumulative impacts
of the ski area expansion and the resort proposed to surround
it.

Onteora Trots Out Its Latest Budget Seeking To Avoid Contingency
Cuts

On Tuesday, June 22, Onteora school district voters will accept
or reject a second budget proposal totaling $41,967,769, down
by more than $700,000 from the budget defeated by the voters
last month. The new proposal represents an increase of 4.14
percent over this year's budget, with an estimated average
6.54 percent tax levy hike. If this budget fails, the district
will go to a contingency budget, limited by law to a 2.76
percent increase, resulting in a 4.72 percent tax increase.
