No Action From County
Large Parcel Tax Increase Still A Subject As Legislature Stalls On A Tie...

            In a 3-3 vote last week, the county legislature’s General Services Committee failed to pass a resolution stating that the Ulster County Legislature would not opt into the large parcel law in 2003, despite pleas from all five members of the Olive Town Board and a handful of Olive residents who attended the committee meeting.
            But according to Legislator Robert Parete (D-Boiceville), who was responsible for putting the resolution forward, this lack of consensus does not necessarily mean the county will choose to enact the law this year. “By not doing anything, the county is not taking a stance on the matter, which is still a good thing because it is not taking a stance to support opting into it either,” said Parete who garnered support from legislative committee members Gary Bischoff (D-Saugerties) and William McAfee (R-Highland).

            Arguing that new restrictions prohibiting bicycles from wilderness trails could hurt our region economically, the politically powerful Coalition of Watershed Towns has weighed in against DEC’s draft revisions to its newly released Catskill Park Master Plan. Two weeks ago Greene County’s legislature took a similar position, and together the moves bode trouble for what the agency may have anticipated would be quick approval for the first proposed revisions to the Catskill Park’s Master Plan since it was first adopted in 1985.

Ward, has accused unidentified “local officials” of releasing details from a U.S Army Corp of Engineers report assessing the vulnerability of the Ashokan Reservoir to a potential terrorist attack.
