Talk about Déjà vu… It’s the end
of another year, with the first snow bringing a nice holiday
cheer to local homes, and what suddenly rounds the corner
just as everyone’s getting into a lazy, armchair-sitting
mood for the holidays? Move aside Santa Claus and howdy do
Dean Gitter… or at least that giant Belleayre Resort
project he’s been pushing towards reality for over seven
years now.

Cross Administration Holds Last Monthly Meeting Without
The Usual Heave-Ho

It was downright benign.
Monday night’s town board session was a quiet one
this week, even though it represented the last official
meeting presided over by the Bob Cross Jr. Administration.
With only one more session planned, the traditional end
of the year meeting on December 27th to pay end of year
bills, Monday’s meeting marks the end of the Republican
Majority’s four year reign.

A Mess Of Animal Cruelty Counts..

A Phoenicia woman has been charged with 29 counts of animal
cruelty last Saturday after 28 Pekinese dogs were seized
by the Ulster County SPCA, according to SPCA Shelter Manager
Adam Saunders.
Most of the animals were in such poor health that immediate
medical was necessary, including the surgical removal
of the eyes of many.

Catskill Watershed Corp Decides To
Take On New York’s Tax Lawsuits

The Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC) Board of
Directors has declared that unresolved tax assessment
litigation brought by New York City against upstate
municipalities where the city owns dams, land and
buildings is “the most serious issue presently
facing the towns in the (City’s) West of Hudson
Watershed.”
In a resolution adopted at its November 27 meeting,
the CWC Board urges a “global settlement”
of current lawsuits, and requests that the City sit
down to “discuss agreement on valuation methodologies
so that future lawsuits might be avoided.”

Planning The Plans
Onteora Hires New Consultants To Check On What Other
Consultants Have OKed

The Onteora school board approved Advisory Solutions
of the New York State School Boards Association to
help design the Master Plan for the district at a
cost of up to $42,000 at its November 27 school board
special meeting, with Superintendent Leslie Ford explaining
that the group will help determine which building,
either Bennett Elementary or the High School, would
best hold grades five-through-eight when the district
reconfigures in the coming years. Also looked into
will be a possible redistricting.
