Phoenicia Does Next With Sewer 3/1/2007By
Phoenicia Times Staff
While claiming to respect the will of the majority, the New York
City Department of Environmental Protection has put a hold on
any final decisions regarding Phoenicia despite the fact that
the voters in that community voted down the plan to build a $17.2
million city funded sewer system.

Association Of Town’s Annual Hilton Shindig’s All
Work... For Those Who Go
3/1/2007
By Paul Smart
The Association of Towns of the State of New York’s Training
School and Annual Meeting, which took place this past week in
the New York Hilton, is not the sexiest of Manhattan events.
While the various Trianon and Royalty-monikered ballrooms and
meeting sites around the massive Midtown Manhattan hostelry
may also play host to New Music, off-the-rack Fashion, and cutting
edge Art World events, there were no shaved plates or even much
talk of Britney Spears February 18 through 21, with several
thousand town clerks, supervisors, planners, and comptrollers
in attendance.

Phoenicia Times Staff
Masterpage Incorporated is unable to meet its end
of a bargain with Shandaken to build a cell tower
on town land. That is the final word on the companies
efforts in this community, but at the same time the
company announced that it was full steam ahead in
Olive, where an already built tower was bogged down
for months in a legal battle.
CONCERN
& HOPE AT WEST SHOKAN STORE
3/1/2007
ByGary Alexander
Residents
of Olive’s West Shokan area are pulling hard
for a family new to the area and concerned about
the plight of their teen-aged son.
There was a time in Olive, as in most rural communities,
when an event like a barn-raising would bring out
neighbors in a display of community spirit and friendship.
In a more recent era, demographics of weekenders,
newcomers and, of course, the eternal tube (tv)
have somewhat fractured scenes of local social exchange
and community solidarity, a circumstance which was
an item of focus for Phil and Barbara Mansfield
and their children, Killian and Callie, when they
arrived last summer to open the American General
Store in West Shokan. Now their efforts to light
the glow of community at their little store is receiving
some positive feedback in a difficult time.
