Some kids went fishing in the Esopus recently,
carrying a plastic bag to clean up any trashy. Over the next two
hours they picked up plastic bottles, scrap metal (including a
bicycle frame) and what ended up being several bags and two wagons
of stuff for the dump. The boys are Sean Keaveny, 11, Cole Reynolds,10,
and Andrew Keaveny,10- all of Phoenicia

A handful
of things stood out at the April 7 Shandaken Town Board Meeting,
one of the most crowded such events in months.
1. For the first time in ages, it was hard to say what had
pulled the crowd… an agenda item dealing with Crossroads
Ventures and developer Dean Gitter’s request to have
their proposed Belleayre Resort be given the town’s
nod for inclusion in a lucrative Empire Zone tax deal or the
presentation being made by administrators from the currently
in-the-news Onteora School District.

After years of continuous legal struggles, and just one
week following the announcement that a State Supreme Court
Judge had thrown out a New York City lawsuit addressing
four years of town assessments, the Town of Olive passed
a Resolution at its Tuesday, April 1 meeting authorizing
a settlement recognizing negotiated valuation for the City-owned
Ashokan reservoir for the coming ten years.

down as an Onteora board member, effective April
4. He sent a short letter sent for School board
president Mary-Jane Bernholz to read at this
past week’s April 8 meeting, Rosenfeld
stated that, “I wish the board well in
all of its future endeavors and value their
friendships.”

a Cara Cruickshank production is the sight of her
seated front row coaching her many young charges
to not only stay on script, and maintain confidence,
but to believe in what they’re doing as an
essential form of magic.
Magic, that is, not only for the communities her
Listen To Me Youth Theater serves, but also for
those performing. And Cruickshank herself, from
the look of her poised like an eternal school girl
on the edge of her seat willing the play to its
fruition.

was found one cold, snowy pre-dawn morning where
she had been literally thrown out with the trash.
The Christmas Star must have been shining down on
her that morning on Main Street, Margaretville,
because when the crew from Ulster County Sanitation
found her she was close to death.
