course, like these camping out at the recent Truck Festival in
Oliverea, now hopefully an annual affair.

DEC's Final Approach to Statewide Gas
Drilling Regs Draws Mixed Reception
5/6/2009
By Brian Powers
After months of pressure from environmental groups and the
City of New York, state regulators announced April 23 that
applications for natural gas drilling in the city's watershed,
along with another smaller one outside Syracuse, would be
excluded from a pending statewide environmental review process

Grannis announced that within these two watersheds "there

associated regulatory and other controls on drilling."

CWC Okays Phoenicia Bid For Planning Help, Pine Hill
In A Temporary Stalemate
5/6/2009
By Phoenicia Times Staff
The Catskill Watershed Corporation's Wastewater
Committee met Tuesday, May 4 to consider whether
the CWC should get involved with Phoenicia's long
festering sewer debate. Meanwhile, at Shandaken
Town Hall, another sewer plan - this one for an
extension to Pine Hill's sewer system - was held
back as lawyers were sent back to the drawing
board to straighten out extension allowing language.
The regional entity, brought together as part
of the 1997 Memorandum of Agreement that allowed
new New York City regulations for its vast upstate
watershed holdings in exchange for major new investments
in Catskill towns and counties, seemed poised
to go ahead with management of Phoenicia's sewer
system from here on in. But it moved with clear
trepidation about the shifting sands of Shandaken
politics.
