The press release that went out from Cornell Cooperative Extension on July 6 seemed innocuous enough, at least in its title: “Home Gardeners Asked to Be on the Lookout for Destructive Vegetable Disease.”
Until you started really reading it…
“Home gardeners need to be on the lookout for Late Blight – a very destructive and very infectious disease that’s infecting tomato and potato plants in gardens,” it reads.

Quietly, The World Turns
Town Board Finds Insurance Savings, Moves Closer Towards Sewer Solution

At Shandaken’s last town board meeting before the local political season goes in to full swing with its summer caucuses, which kick off Thursday when local Republicans gather at Glenbrook Park, things ended up unusually low key. It was announced that the town was going to save upwards of $30,000 by switching insurance companies, and the audience was told that a new sewer plan for Phoenicia was officially being studied and that a stormwater retro-fit program for Pine Hill is finally underway.
