Spitzer’s Camp Calls Crossroads’ Resort Plans A Threat To NYC Water Quality

The state’s highest ranking official in charge of protecting the City’s water supply has concluded that Crossroads Ventures’ “large scale mountaintop and mountainside development” proposed for 1,250 acres east of the Belleayre Mountain Ski area could imperil the quality of the Ashokan Reservoir and cost City taxpayers billions of dollars by significantly undercutting “federal, state, and city efforts to avoid the need to construct a…water filtration plant.”

Spending Cuts Talk Leads To Revelation About Belleayre’s High Ambulance Cost

Running Shandaken will cost $4.3 million next year. That’s the bottom line on the spending plan after the town board shaved about $12,000 off of the preliminary package that Budget Officer/Supervisor Robert Cross Jr. prepared last month. The budget brings a tax increase of about 6.3 percent.

Shokan’s Woerner Releases a New CD

“It took me a long time to come to classical music,” says soprano Danielle Woerner of Shokan, whose second CD of contemporary classical songs, Voices of the Valley, is just out from Albany Records. The daughter of two part-time professional musicians, she rebelled against the omnipresence of classical music in the house. Her father was also an engineer, and he wired the whole house with speakers. “I would open the bathroom linen closet, and Wagner would be blaring out through the towels. I couldn’t get away from it except by closing the door of my room and playing protest songs on the guitar.”
