Hamlet Says No Thanks To $17 Million
in City-Funded Septic Infrastructure 2/15/2007
By Phoenicia Times Staff
The recent defeat of the proposed Phoenicia sewer project will
not be affected by the small amount of absentee ballots left to
be counted.
That’s according to Shandaken Town Clerk Laurilyn Frasier,
who said last week that only nine absentee ballots remain out.
There are, however, many questions remaining about the fate of
the project and of the hamlet.

Catskill Ski Resorts Are Hoping They’ll Now Get A Fabulous
Seasonal Finish
2/15//2007By
Paul Smart
Tuesday, February 13, was Hunter Ski Bowl owner/operator Orville
Slutzky’s 90th birthday. As always this time of year, he
was hard at work… and happy as a school boy that all signs
were pointing to his getting a real treat for a present this year.
Snow… natural, falling-from-the-sky snow.
“It’s been bad, our worst season ever,” the
veteran of drawing city dwellers north from the metro area decade
after decade since the late 1950s said. “WE have the best
conditions in the Northeast here but with people in the city yet
to see anything white falling, it doesn’t matter.”

2/15//2007
By Phoenicia Times Staff
With a very weak communication signal coming from Masterpage
Communications these days, the Shandaken Town Board has sent
out a signal to owner Kevin Kellerhouse to come to town and
explain just what is going on, if anything, with the construction
of a cell tower at Glenbrook Park in Shandaken.

Pegged For Reimbursal
By Lisa Childers

The Onteora school board approved a resolution that
calls for the public to vote on a $1,862,711 bond
for major building repairs at its February 6 meeting
in Woodstock. The referendum will take place at local
elementary schools on March 29 from 2pm to 9pm.
“This vote, if approved, is at no cost to tax
payers… I want that to come out loud and clear,”
noted OCS Trustee Rita Vanacore at the meeting. “It
is coming out of the Capital reserve fund and EXCEL
aid.”

Talks About His
New Power
2/15/2007
By Paul Smart
State Senator John Bonacic’s looking good these
days. Always a natty dresser and quick smiler, his
public appearance has been augmented by a knowing
look in his eye that’s always press-ready of
late. Suffice it to say that his failed attempt to
route powerful Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno
last month and long, closed-door meetings with new
Governor Eliot Spitzer in recent weeks, have fueled
the sort of media attention this veteran campaigner
seems to thrive on.
