NATURE
AND ART
is the
title of a new show of sculptures by Esopus Valley resident Ivan
Velilla that opened at Uptown Kingston’s Coffey Gallery on
Wall Street recently. Velilla works with found objects, gifts of
nature that he finds on his romantic Catskills property. Fallen
branches, detached roots, often with stones embedded in them--Velilla
sees the beauty in these objects and then enhances it. He enters
into relationship with each object, polishing and refining it for
long hours. The results are a beautiful homage to all that is this
miraculous place we inhabit in these hills and valleys, and well
worth all of us getting down to the county seat to see. The show
is up through the end of the month; the gallery is usually open.
