The
fantastic Mettawee River Theatre Company returns to The
Gould Church Lawn in Roxbury for the twenty-third year on Wednesday,
July 18 at 8 pm. Presented by The Roxbury Arts Group, the company
will perform its new production of the classic comic romp, Peace
written in the 5th century BC by Aristophanes the Greek playwright
regarded as the “Father of Comedy.” With its timeless
and timely subject, and the ever-magical and amazing masks and puppets
by Ralph Lee the play will be performed out of doors. Rain venue
RAG. Bring chairs and/blankets. Suggested donation: $8 adults, $5
children.
(607) 326-7908 for information. PEACE was written in 421 B.C. to
celebrate a brief respite from the war that plagued Greece throughout
most of Aristophanes’ lifetime. It is about a feisty man who
flies to Mount Olympus to complain to the gods about the situation
on earth. The production will feature an original musical score
composed by Neal Kirkwood... see this troupe; they’re a national
treasure...
