Town Planners Lean Towards Lenience In Their Workshop Preamble To A Decision

The members of the Shandaken planning board held a workshop on Tuesday, August 1st to discuss what they heard at last month’s public hearing on the controversial water harvesting project slated for Woodland valley in Phoenicia, and the majority of the board seem ready to grant permission to the plan, which calls for large trucks to run in and out of the valley on a daily basis.

The Article 78 lawsuit brought against the Town of Shandaken by 20 landowners last autumn, charging that the town had improperly revaluated its parcels over 20 acres in size without due process opportunities, was dismissed by Ulster County Supreme Court Judge Michael Kavanagh on technical terms on July 17.

Route 28 Closures?
State DOT Looks To Deep Culvert Repairs While 23A Diversion Brings New Business

Damage from this summer’s rains, while not as much as expected on a private, homeowners level, may turn out to be more disruptive than at first assessed as state road crews eye the closure of Route 28 to replace a deep culvert in the Boiceville area later this month, possibly detouring traffic through Woodstock for at least a month, and the work to repair a large section of state Route 23A in Hunter that slid down Kaaterskill Clove stretches on into late autumn and possibly early winter.
