Approximately $106 million has been programmed for countywide transportation improvement projects to be spun out over the next four years, with another $376 million for multi-county projects that will also directly benefit county residents via Thruway and rail line improvements, road signage upgrades, and hosts of more minor repairs on all bridges and thoroughfares throughout the region.

Onteora Board Makes Transportation Changes As School Year Starts Well

After a tour of the Bennett School by new principal Gabe Buono Tuesday night, September 11 - with attendant audience in tow - the Onteora School Board settled into what amounted to a routine workshop meeting highlighted by discussion of the entity’s goals and mission for the coming year. Former boardmember and president Marino D’Orazio, voted out of office this past spring, was given a plaque for his 10 years of service to the district. The district’s capital reserve was again increased, from $1 million to its max amount of $1.8 million, and much was made of new policies designed to come down hard on student smoking around the school facilities in Boiceville.

After years of failed attempts to bring cellular service to Shandaken, the town board signed a deal Monday to build one tower and conduct a study to find locations for others in order to blanket as much of the town with wireless service as possible.
The deal was reached in a manner that has become typical of the current administration, led by Robert Cross Jr., with board members being asked to review the details of the deal after getting them only last Friday.

For most people visiting town hall, the first person they encounter to transact a range of town business is often the Town Clerk, whom we’ll be electing in November for a 4-year term. According to Laurilyn Frasier, now in her 20th year at the post, responsibilities include serving as the town’s tax collector, public relations officer, records management and licensing officer, recording secretary, election coordinator, registrar of vital statistics and cash control officer.. plus some other roles like overseeing the loan closet, the dog kennel, and park & facilities reservations.
