Shandaken GOP Wins Narrow Majority While Legislature Swings To Democrats

Despite what are expected to be solid wins, once absentee ballots
are counted over the coming week, no one seemed particularly happy
with Tuesday night’s 2005 Town Election results in Shandaken
this past week.
According to those at GOP headquarters at Al’s Restaurant,
the jubilant victory mode of two years ago was worn down by close
election results that kept the final tallies up in the air until
a late hour, and robbed all but a few visitors of any clear material
for claiming a townwide mandate.

Office of the Aging’s HII-CAP (Health Insurance Information
Counseling Assistance Program), local seniors are not only confused
by the new Medicare Plan D prescription drug plan set to start
signing people up November 15, but actually losing sleep over
the complexities in the plan.

of Health and Human Services, held a forum to discuss concerns
based on a survey taken by students addressing substance abuse.
Although reported substance abuse at Onteora is slightly lower
than the country’s average, Sears raised concern regarding
mixed messages from the communities.

Veterans Clean Cemetery

As President of the Mt. Pleasant Rural Cemetery Board of Trustees,
Sheldon Boice gets phone calls from folks all over the country
looking for information about various people buried in the cemetery.
Some are descendents of the deceased, some history buffs, while
others are researching complex genealogical trees and want to
know things like whether or not a particular person served in
a particular war.
