Two years ago, former supervisor Pete Di Modica signed an agreement for the town’s purchase of the Pine Hill Water Company, capping a 6-month negotiation with the system’s owner at the time, developer Dean Gitter. Along with the water company, the town acquired a $1.6 million interlocking grant and loan package for improvements to it. Now, Supervisor Bob Cross Jr. is faulting Di Modica for the handling of those funds, and Di Modica’s responding that Cross doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

A new announcement set to coincide with March 22’s quiet celebration as World Water Day, part of the recently announced World Water Decade (2005-2015), was disseminated last week with the introductory comment: “The Catskill Watershed Museum is no more. Did you even know it existed? Well, it didn’t so don’t feel out of the loop. The Watershed Museum never opened and it never will.”

It was a woodshed not unlike many that lurk behind our us to the spot by more than initials, F and R, and their general age: late pre-teen.
“Man, we never thought we’d actually pull this off,” F said, looking furtively to the left and right as he led me back to the shed. As we approached, a great rattling emerged from its bark-covered interior.
