SHANDAKEN CALENDAR

One of the best exhibits to hit the Catskills in memory is now  up at the quietly  influential  Catskill Mountain Foundation Gallery in Hunter, NY, "Legacy: Generations Working In Abstract Expressionist and Minimalist Traditions," brings together such masters as Sol Lewitt, the cultural icon who basically invented conceptualism, and pioneered minimalism, and Joop Sanders, one of the founders of Abstract Expressionism with his pals Wilhem de Kooning and Jackson Pollack, along with younger mid-career artists such as  Melinda Stickney-Gibson of Phoenicia; James Holl of Catskill; Woodstock photographer Jeff Milstein; Coxsackie painter Lynn Dreese Breslin; Kingston sculptor/painter Jonah Meyer; Hudson‚s Cindy Coulter; and the amazingly visceral steel and bronze sculptor John Sanders, son of Joop (seen above), who has pushed expressionism into new, fire-molded forms and processes. Legacy stays up through May 16. For further information visit www.catskillmtn.org or call 518-263-4908.
