Phoenicia’s Primary Main Street Access Set For County Repairs In Coming Weeks

The floodwaters have gone but business in Phoenicia is still soggy, say a number of Main Street shopkeepers and business owners. And how quickly things return to a more normal pace for this summer may depend, in part, on how quickly the county’s Bridge Street bridge is returned to service.
The answer it seems, is early July.

Lawnmower Brouhaha
Cross & Merwin At Loggerheads Over Mowing Of Town Parks And Union Regs

It appears the town of Shandaken Highway Department will not mow the five town parks this year, causing some friction in the community now that the grass and the daffodils are taking over.
This ruckus, which has some political undertones, has reportedly led to arguments between elected officials and community members about what to do. As a result there is a plan to use several thousand dollars more of taxpayer money to hire an outside company to do the work that most expected the town highway department to do.

"I get very little sleep - by choice," says Stacy Mapstone. "I just hate saying no." Unfortunately, she has to say no occasionally; there just aren't enough hours in the day to do all the service-oriented things she'd like to do. Stacy is best known in the area as the leader of the local chapter of La Leche League International - "I'm called the Breast Lady of Shokan," she says with a smile - but giving breast-feeding information and encouragement to new mothers is just one of many generous roles she plays in the local community.
