A
Difficult Adoption
Cross Committee’s Comp Plan Approved
Amidst Charges Of Procedural Problems
By Brian Powers
At a tensely divided meeting punctuated by Supervisor Bob Cross
Jr’s threats to have at least four people removed by police
for attempting to ask questions, Shandaken’s town board
adopted a comprehensive plan on Monday, July 11. In a series of
votes straight down party line, Cross and fellow Republicans Jane
Todd and Joe Munster voted in favor of immediately adopting the
plan. Democrats Edna Hoyt and Paul Van Blarcum opposed doing so,
saying they and the public were not afforded time to read and
review recent changes to it, and had never seen a 21-page “
Environmental Assessment Form” presented for their approval
that night.

GOP Picks Setchko & Stanley To Run On New ‘Prosperity’
Ticket With Cross Support
By Paul Smart
At first, everyone at last week’s Shandaken GOP caucus in
Glenford Park was grumbling that some of the local papers had
listed the start-time for the biennial event at 7 p.m. instead

town iscurrently facing -Ed.)
I hear a lot in Olive these days about “them” and
“us”. “They” come up here from New York
City and buy properties for more than they’re worth, “they”
expect too many services, “they” are driving up property
taxes and making it impossible for “us” to live here.
“They” are rude and pushy. “They” just
don’t understand that we do things differently in the country.

Stepping Up To Be The OCS VP

By Paul Smart
The kitchen at new Onteora School Board Vice President Rita
Vanacore’s Shokan house is a busy place, filled with the
comings and goings of the three generations of her family that
occupy the large 1906 home, built for one of the City supervisors
for the building of the nearby Ashokan reservoir, as well as
its numerous adjacent houses. And Vanacore’s ability to
not only concentrate on what’s before her in such family
activitoes, while simultaneously engaging each and every member
of her family, from grandkids to kids to calls from her uncle,
former OCS board-member Joe Vanacore, living with his wife now
in Kingston.
