DEP To Pay $100 Grand For Crossroads Review; DiModica Tables
Town Law Talk
Shandaken will have money to begin its review
of the Belleayre Resort, having become the beneficiary of a deal

Onteora Mulls New Rate That Could Spell Lower Taxes In Shandaken,
Higher In Olive
By
Paul Smart
The state's adoption of an alternative tax apportionment mechanism
for school districts with designated large properties last September
is presently causing considerable consternation throughout the
municipalities that make up the Onteora School District, with
Olive residents now worrying about reports that their school
taxes could go up by over 60 percent in the coming years because
of the town's longstanding reliance on taxes paid by the New
York City-owned Ashokan Reservoir, which currently makes up
over half the town's value.
"It's an alternative tax apportionment program that's totally
voluntary," said Joe Hesch, spokesperson for the state
Office of Real Property Services, which oversees the tax code.
He noted that the suggested change was first brought to his
department six years ago by members of the state Asasociation
of Towns, as well as the legislative committee of the state
Assessors Association.

before.
