SHANDAKEN CALENDAR

The Classical Romanticism of Eugene Gregan: Paintings from Forty Years in the Catskills is the title of the new exhibit opening at the Emerson Resort & Spa in MT. Tremper on Saturday, October 9, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, with a post reception dinner. Gregan, who has been based in the Catskills since 1970, is known as much for his graphics and teaching work, the latter including stints at RISD, Yale, and the Naropa Institute, as for his paintings in both representational and abstract formats... and the private collections he's been included in (John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Miles Davis, Robert Mitchum, John Steinbeck, Julie Christie, Bill Cosby, Calvin Klein, Ram Dass, Alan Gerry, and so forth). The work, which at times has included forays into album covers, has modernist tendencies, a host of influences and similarities, but also the calm assurance of one who's spent a lifetime perfecting his art... and truly seeing the natural world he's chosen to inhabit.
